Research Paper on Indian Culture

Research Paper on Indian Culture

Old is gold so is Indian civilization. India is an ever demanding destination for people for centuries, because it is so diverse and yet one. India represents a kaleidoscope of color and festivals, perfumes and aromas, cuisine and costume. Very few countries worldwide have such a diverse and ancient culture as India has. Stretching back in an unbroken sweep over 5000 years, Indian culture has been enriched by successive waves of migration that were absorbed into the Indian way of life. Modern India presents a picture of unity in diversity to which history provides no parallel.

America on the other hand is one of the richest and most resourceful nations on our planet. Americans yearn for success and the constant prosperity of their society. This characteristic makes them the most unique and most powerful nation in the world. America has given her people the mean to live a quality life and protected them with constitutional laws that are the envy of other nations. It is this way of life that I would like to experience and learn from. The very thought of combining the American way of life and believes with some of the Indian customs and culture, makes me confident that one could improve ones life and society alike.

India's culture can be of great value to America, which itself is rich in diversity. American culture is considered extremely tolerant. Americans are always keen to learn about others cultures and the greatness lies in the fact that, they respect all the cultures, and treat other cultures with great understanding. American society sees other people as individuals like themselves. They treat ideas, manners and customs with respect that deepens their capacity to appreciate another's culture. After all being civil- courteous, considerate and polite, open doors for dialogue and discovery, thus America is truly considered a country that is home to many who are far away from home. The greatness of this country is to appreciate other culture and to learn from them.

Knowledge is of great importance, and education definitely plays a great role in ones success. Where most of the young American kids drop out of High School, Indians are known to at least pursue a bachelors degree. Thus one important thing being an Indian I can promote in America is the value of education. Another important aspect of human life is the family value. Most Americans leave their houses when they are teenagers, parents also seems to prefer this way of life, but because there is no elderly person to guide these teenagers, most of them take a wrong path and opt for drugs, booze, smoking etc. In India all the family members are closely woven, and ones decision effects the others, therefore kids always seeks parents advice before taking any steps, and thus there is less room for error, and less chances of kids choosing a wrong path. In America most of the marriages end up in divorce, and thus just a single parent raises a kid. A broken home and broken relationship between mother and father can create a bitter feeling in a child, and thus he/she might never know the true meaning of family and marriage. Such kid when become teenagers are often seen as bullying other kids, and high in temperament, small argument can lead to a street fight or some kind of chaos. Indian yoga and different form of Indian meditation can be a best way to ease a soul like that, which is full of hatred. Indian yoga has already become very popular in many parts of the world, and many Americans practice it everyday to gain inner peace. The channel of thought and culture of India is "higher realization of life", not materialistic fascination but "spiritual quest".

Having said that, I believe that by having the opportunity to live in America, I would be able to learn a lot about America's Societies, its people, and their way of life. In the process, perhaps I could be fortunate enough to teach a thing or two about my customs and believes to my American friends. In the end I would just like to say that it is great to learn from other cultures and respect them, but in that process one should not forget their own roots and culture.
