Essay on Family

Essay on Family

When one thinks of family, the first meaning that comes to the mind is: "Family is a group of people that consists of parents, children and their relatives." Of course, every person defines family differently. However, the difference is only in the words used, but the core significance remains the same. In my opinion, family is the most important thing that one has in life, because it influences children who are the future of the world, it is the only thing one can rely on, and it is what consists society.

Beforehand, let's try to define the word "family". According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, family comes from the Latin word familia. In the meaning of household, it indicates a group of individuals living under one roof and under one head. It is the same definition as the Roman one where "everyone in household: legitimate children, adopted adults, secretaries and other dependants, slaves of various ages," are members of familia. Nowadays, family consists of only people who are of common ancestry: either parents or relatives.

First, the fact that the family plays a huge role in one's life by influencing children gives the family a vital importance. Because children are the future, whatever the family inculcates in them could be crucial."How can we best ensure that children will grow up into a successful adulthood?" By inculcating good morals, principles, and values in children, the family is building a future that is optimistic, bright and full of hope. How can one imagine a world where children have no morals, principles, or values? It would be wrong, wicked, and revolting.

Second, being able to rely on one's family is another reason why the family is very important. The first person one turns to in trouble, pain or even joy and happiness is the family. Whatever the problem is, parents are always there for their children. People feel safe within their families where they find love, care and understanding. One would never be betrayed by his family, no matter what his social status is. Whether a person is rich or poor, sick or healthy, happy or miserable, his family will never give up on him.

Third, the fact that the family is the pillar of the society gives it an even bigger value. This means that having a good society depends completely on how strong the families are. If the family is stable and healthy, then the society is stable and healthy. For instance, having a family that has such important values as tolerance and understanding results in having a tolerant and understanding society as an outcome. But if on the other hand the family tells children that lying is an OK matter to do, it would result in telling the whole society it is so. Of course, if one can lie then he can steal, and if one can steal then he can kill. Therefore, if the family is sick and unhealthy, the whole society is sick and unhealthy.

To sum up, I believe that everything turns around the family. The family here could be the parents and relatives as well as the friends and environment. It would be hard to imagine one's life without a family, because it is what builds our future, what we can count on, and it is the essence of the society.
