Research Proposal on Civilization
Our civilization is named after the goddess Ik, and is an island located in the Pacific Ocean. Today known as Fiji, this island is found at about 18 degrees south, and 178 degrees west. It's neighboring islands are (presently known as) Tonga, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna, and Samoa. It's capital is Al, and it's major cities are Shaniqua, Polywod, Mango, And Melandadjon. Ik's natural boundary is of course the Pacific Ocean, and it has a man made boundary called the Iky wall. (Pronounced Icky) Its geographic landforms include volcanoes, beaches, and mountains.

The earliest inhabitants of the island that are known were the Ikabodian and Tarantulonian tribes. These two groups lived peacefully on opposite sides of the island until their populations grew and people were able to travel around more. Once they were aware that they weren't the only ones on the island, neither one liked the idea and soon war broke out between the two. The Tarantulonians, who were more technologically advanced and fierce than the Ikabodians and won the war. The Tarantulonian tribe flourished throughout the island but soon a typhoon cane and wiped out everyone besides the small population of the mountain men who survived the flooding by the high elevation of their living quarters. After the typhoon, the only civilization left on the island was these mountain men, who began to overpopulate and move some of their civilization down the mountain towards the once inhabited land. Their natural resources were springs, (natural water) coal, diamonds, and gold. People mostly lived for themselves and their families, on establishments according to what they depended on for food. For example, families could live on either farms, or by the beach if the husband was a fisherman, or up in the mountains if they hunted more for their food. There were a couple of small one-room schoolhouses, which educated future scribes, and medicine men. But these types of occupations were scarce. Occasionally a market would be set up with people coming to sell their trade. Many of them selling jewelry of gold and diamonds, and other crafts, medicine men would sell some of their herbs, fishermen would bring their fish, and farmers would come to make agreements with people on supplying crops. There wasn't an exact money system. People traded each other for what they needed.
The people in the Ik civilization lived in different types of shelters. The people on the beaches lived in high structures to keep elevated from the water. The people in the mountains lived in caves and log cabin type houses. They ate fruit, seafood, and raised cattle and goats for their food sources. They supported polytheism, but mainly worshiped three gods: Ik, the head goddess, Fi, the head god, and Ji, the protector of the island and the warrior god. They worshiped these gods in a temple that was built many years before them. It had a wall for protection and a tall inner tower for worship. This temple was architecturally sound and soon dubbed the name the Ziggurat. (Many other civilizations later adopted the idea of a Ziggurat.) The people of the Ik civilization resembled the early inhabitants of Hawaii in appearance. They didn't have any established sort of government. Most every man lived for himself and his family. People kept to themselves, and although social gatherings did occur, they were scarce. Everyone had a place in the civilization, although no one referred to it as a "job". Mostly farmers, fisherman, and a few priests, medicine/enchanter doctors, (who combined the power of herbs with the power of the gods) scribes, and scholars who devoted their time to writing literature, or experimenting with science/mathematics made up the civilization. Unfortunately, no one really paid any attention to the discoveries of these self-educated people, for it was seen as unneeded in life. Cities were really nothing more than a marked piece of land, for no one would inhabit a place not fit for means of survival.
Food in the civilization of course depended on location. However, the islands all-around favorite food is seafood. It's the most common meal to be found, and generally enjoyed by everyone. Also eaten are vegetables grown by the farmers, and meat found by the hunters of the mountains. Fruit, however, isn't really included in the food selection of the island. Though some fruit can be found growing wildly through some parts of the land, it is not worth going out to find, pick, and eat.
