Essay on Confucious
During the Chou dynasty in 551-479 B.C. a man known as “the teacher” taught his students in China, this man was known as Confucius (or K’ung Fu-tzu). He was called “the teacher” because he gave the people in his surroundings most of the answers to questions they had and were striving to understand. The most reliable source of Confucius’ ideas came from the text known as “The Analects”. I believe that Confucianism and the ideas of human nature which come from this have several advantages; the beliefs give us rules, regulations and direction to put into affect in our everyday lives, and also gives us a feeling of self satisfaction.

Confucius’ ideas on human nature would work in a world like ours today because he primarily focused his studies on human welfare. With his ideas of family values and the golden rule, the world we live in would be in a more peaceful state of mind. He wasn’t too concerned however with the worship of unnaturally occurring objects such as gods or spirits. His belief on this issue was “You are not able even to serve man. How can you serve the spirits?”(XI.12). When Confucius says that, he does not mean that there are not unnatural beings or forces which can determine our lives, Confucius just believes that if we are not able to satisfy our needs and the needs of others how can we satisfy those of spirits? Confucius’ strongly agreed with living by “The Decree of Heaven”, and not to worry about other issues in life, because there is no control over these issues. To live by “The Decree of Heaven”, strong family morals and the Golden Rule would give our lives rules, regulation, and direction. If we were to adopt this theory into the world we live in it would not be that much different. In our world there is a majority of people that have no preference of religion, or agnostic; this would give these people a sense of well being and self-satisfaction because they primarily would put their interest into that of basic human nature. They would also have knowledge of spirits, which they did not even care for before, but they would have the knowledge that there is a higher power that controls their life and there is not necessarily a reason to worship these Gods or spirits. In contrast with this, Christians and other religious groups who worship a god or many gods would be discussed with this idea. The whole belief is centered on God and how He is the Supreme Being. Everyone shall worship the word and the ways of God to be considered a religious advocate.
The aspect of adopting Confucianism into our everyday lives, and into society as one, would make the world a better place. Ideas such as benevolence, golden rule, and the definition of a gentleman are all found throughout Confucianism, and these ideas make the world a more blissful place to live in. If everyone lived by the golden rule, treat everyone in the manner in which you would like to be treated. The world as one could be a better, safer place to live and people who would go against this rule would get the negative affect of the rule “ Do not impose on others what yourself do not desire”(XII.2). Confucius also believed in benevolence (the act of kindness), good family morals, and the act of being a true gentleman. These acts of kindness would give humanity as one a sense of self-satisfaction, a feeling of doing something morally right and feeling better for doing this. If we all lived by the ways of Confucius there would not be families split apart from divorce, and women would be treated in the highest respect for which they deserve.
In a world where there are so many problems; war, famine, death and disease a new view on life would give hope to so many that are in need of it. Confucianism would provide the aid that so many desire. The standard of living, sense of direction, which Confucianism gives us, will fulfill our lives with self-satisfaction, knowing that when we lived, we lived for the common good of everyone. Confucianism may not be the answer, but it would be a start.
